Dr. Sunitha KrishnanSocial Activist (Karnataka, India) 2011

DR. SUNITHA KRISHNAN – She is an Indian social activist and chief functionary and co-founder of Prajwala, a non-governmental organization that rescues, rehabilitates and reintegrates sex-trafficked victims into society
From a Rape-survivor to a ‘Saviour’, she has lived a life that is both poignant and potent as well. Gang-raped by eight men when she was 15, she refused to be broken down by the calamity. Instead, she drew on the lava of anger exploding within her and established, ‘Prajwala’, a movement against atrocities on women. Her first venture under it was to convert a brothel in India’s Southern city of Hyderabad into a School for the children of Sex-workers, so that the next generation may not be trafficked.
A ‘Salute’ to her ‘Spirit’…!
