Younger Generation of actors have it tough – Yash Tonk

Yash Tonk, who is playing a negative patriarch in Sony show Jaat Ki Jugni- Ek Visphotak Prem, feels the younger generation of actors have it tough. “We had our run, but gen next really have it tough. If they do manage a hit show then they really find it difficult to replicate success again. Even when they do films, they don’t even get aired on TV. On the other hand the few films I did still have repeat value. It was no mean task to share screen space with Salman Khan (Jai Ho) & Sohail Khan (Fight Club).”

“Having said that, I am not really gung-ho about films either, for even a couple of my films did not see the light of day and I also lost a lot of time. You either give me a very strong script or a lot of money, else I am content with TV. Here projects keep happening at a regular pace, my last show (Yeh Vaada Raha) shut and in a matter of months this happened. “

Yash has done hit shows like Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, Karam Apnaa Apnaa,Kasautii Zindagii Kay and Kaahin Kissii Roz  etc. Coming to his new show he has no qualms about playing character artists. “For let’s face it today all lead actors have to be 23 or 24 years & I do not look that young anymore. So it is better to do what is on offer. But yes I don’t take anything or everything. The role has to be juicy enough like in this new  show, my character Bauji is the mainstay. The story revolves around him and his on screen daughter Munni ( Madirakshi Mundle) who is the lead.”
When asked as to what could be the reason for his longevity he  says , “I don’t overact, even in the TV dynamics, I do what is required but in my own way. My directors have told me that with you we don’t need to employ those tactics. And the point to be remembered is that even if you are loud you can still be subtle for e.g although Rishi Kapoor shouted a lot in Karz, we never say he was OTT.”
