Ritu KumarFashion (Punjab, India) 2004
RITU KUMAR – She delved into such esoteric subjects as ‘Museology’ and ‘Art History’, but her true passion lay in becoming a Couturier. With just two small tables and a determination to create, she started her fashion business in Kolkata, utilizing hand-block printing techniques to craft Bridal-wear and evening clothes in the 60s and 70s. This marked the inception of the Ritu Kumar legend, which would eventually span the globe with outlets in London, France, and beyond.
Her designs are steeped in heritage, showcasing natural fabrics and traditional printing and weaving techniques. In the world of haute couture, her creations are akin to the timeless elegance associated with ‘Princess Diana’. Ritu Kumar is not merely a name; she is an institution, revered for her artistic vision and unwavering dedication to her craft.
